Over the next 12 months, UK workers will continue to fall victim to the ongoing squeeze on real pay.
That is the assessment of Hay Group, the global management consultancy, which has warned that the pay freeze is likely to be maintained due to pressure to cuts costs.
In this sense, employees are suffering in a very direct way from continuing trouble in the wider British economy, the group said.
According to the study, a mere seven per cent of those people polled said that they were confident that the worst of the downturn was over.
Some 61 per cent of firms, meanwhile, claimed that they saw an upturn in business performance last year.
Adam Burden, reward information consultant at Hay Group, commented: "As ongoing instability hits business confidence, a continued squeeze on pay is inevitable.
"Our research reveals the demoralising effect pay uncertainty is having on employee morale."
It is important, therefore, that managers engage with their employees in order to keep them motivated during the ongoing economic troubles.
Silent Edge gives managers the tools to provide effective objective evaluations that will engage staff and drive sales performance.
