A report into absence management technology, conducted by Office Angels, one of the leading high street recruiters, has suggested that it will soon become tougher to dishonestly take a day off work.
Technology will soon put a stop to the practice, according to the employees polled for the survey, many of whom said that they expect bosses will be better able to keep an eye on staff.
Some 35 per cent of those surveyed think that 'pulling a sickie' will get more difficult, Office Angels said.
David Clubb, the managing director of Office Angels, commented: "Days off sick cost the economy billions of pounds every year, and when they are taken falsely, it can point to a deeper problem with morale.
"While technological advances may mean staff feel less able to 'pull a sickie', we don't expect an Orwellian world where employers can monitor every move."
To avoid such a scenario, it is imperative to keep staff morale high by ensuring that employees feel appreciated but also challenged in their role.
