O2, one of the UK's biggest mobile phone firms, has announced that it has launched a practical study into the advantages of flexible working.
The firm has confirmed that a quarter of its UK workforce is, just for today (February 8th), operate remotely.
In order for the approach to prove successful, the 3,000 employees, who are usually based in O2's Slough offices, will work remotely using their own or company-provided technologies.
Speaking ahead of the pilot, Ann Pickering, director of HR at O2, explained: "We live in such a connected world today that it's far easier for employees to remain in touch, no matter where they happen to be.
"There are huge benefits to be gained in enabling your workforce to be mobile."
This comes shortly after a government report warned that UK businesses that are reliant on internet access may experience a significant slowdown in speeds during the 2012 Olympics.
