The Chartered Institute of Personal Development (CIPD) has claimed that the first quarter of this year will be the most difficult the UK has seen since the end of the recession.
This, the CIPD explained, is largely due to the fact that a large number of private firms are keen to make redundancies.
Over the last two years, 47 per cent of employers feel that they have been stopped from creating new roles over and above existing levels, the CIPD found.
According to the survey, the main obstacle to making new appointments was access to finance (54 per cent) and skill shortages (21 per cent).
Gerwyn Davies, public policy adviser at the CIPD, said: "Whereas employers were in 'wait and see' mode three months ago, more private sector firms, particularly among private sector services firms, have decided to push the redundancy button in response to worsening economic news.
"This will exert yet more pressure on a jobs market that is buckling under the strains of contractions in economic growth and public sector employment."
Silent Edge provides employers with the skills necessary to conduct accurate objective evaluations that will allow them to formulate an effective talent management programme.
